Does anyone know about the first time home buyer property transfer tax exemption in Vancouver BC!?
I recently purchased my first home in Vancouver, Canada. My first plan was living in it and apply the exemption from property transfer. After purchase, all my plan was changed and decided to rent the place for 2 years. One conditions of this tax exemption is living there for a year. It is not fair to pay tax transfer in a place that you know you will live there soon, especially in an expensive housing market like Vancouver. I wonder if anyone has already faced this situation and what can I do to minimize or avoid paying taxes. Your response is greatly appreciated.
They are really sticky with that exemption. It is the intention of helping first-time buyers. If you are in that position (in their opinion) you can pay rent, you are ineligible, and will not bend the rules for you.
