Time employment before him the part of being claimed as a dependent?
We live in California and this year in our tax filing, my husband hit me because we are in the highest tax level, I am independent, but only works sporadically in various projects and earn a meager income each year (about $ 20K after expenses). Question - would it be better for me not work at all for my husband I can claim as a dependent? Are we receive a better tax deduction? Currently we have no children, are homeowners, and in the highest tax. Thanks in advance for your advice:)
If you are married, then your husband can not claim as a dependent. You simply file a joint return and claim both their income and its two exceptions. The only other option would be separate is married has a high tax rate is rarely beneficial.
