The small business taxes: Tips year-end - Things to do before Dec. 31 to reduce your taxes
The year is over and the season on the horizon taxes. What can be done before Dec. 31 to reduce the bill for this year? Plenty.
First, you must get the whole picture. Assuming that you have been faithfully followed the income and expenses during the year it is time to print a statement (profit and loss also known as the report or P & L) and see where you are.
If you do not have all of its 2008 operations of its entry accounting software is essential you get this done immediately, otherwise he will end the year without knowing what the numbers look like, and you miss a great opportunity to achieve tax savings. And you also enter 2009 with no idea of what your tax situation appears. If you have a balance due on the 2008 return, the sooner you realize that the best.
Once you have your tax return in front of you, to compare the results for 2007. 2008 was better or worse than 2007? If you have a better year and are showing an increase in profits is still time to do something.
There are only two ways to reduce taxable income: the reduction or increased sales expenses. Now that 2008 is almost history, there are steps you can do to reduce sales (and why would you do anyway?). But you can increase spending during the last days of the year to make additional purchases, assuming that the money is available to do so.
So make a list of articles that were intended to buy companies legitimate in 2009 and bought up in 2008. This includes things like office supplies (stationary, paper and others), and the more valuable items such as office equipment (computers, printers, fax machines, etc..)
As soon as office equipment, keep in mind that you can take advantage of the deduction for section 179 property purchased by 12/31. This means that you can avoid the nightmare of the regulatory net of depreciation and just do something like a computer the same way that the clips deducted - is fully deductible in the year of purchase as an expense rather than the depreciation over several years.
In addition to supplies and equipment, may also increase spending in 2008 for costs Pre-payment is not due until 2009. Here are some examples: advertising, utilities, rent and insurance. Perhaps you received an invoice for these items in 2008, but payment is not expected before January. Go ahead and pay now.
One final note: Please Note that if you wait until 2009 to make these purchases, you will be the deduction and the same result in tax savings (assuming you're in the same tax bracket.) So, what is the advantage? Intervals. Think of it like this: I have $ 350 and I give you. When do we want? Now or later? Probably, now, right?
Well, if you have $ 1,000 to spend on business deductions, you're in the tax bracket 35%, the IRS has $ 350 would like to give you. When do we want? This year or next year? It depends on you, but good business is now. Get money a year ago and use it to your advantage.

Which form should I use to take deductions for a business for the future?
If I'm starting a small business that has yet to produce any income, what form I can submit to my tax deduction from my position due currently employed? In particular, I am currently an employee with a fixed salary made by the software and purchases of office supplies in order to obtain a small web based firm in business. I have yet to launch, but would like to deduct my costs of getting into business of my current taxes due.
In general, it must amortize the start-up costs incurred before business starts trading. Form 4562 is used for that. See IRS Pub 535 http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p535.pdf for information on them, along to form http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f4562.pdf of 4562 and Form 4562 for instuctions I http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/i4562.pdf highly recommend a consultation with a local CPA or EA who specializes in small business accounting and tax issues.
