The government incentive programs for renewable energy

The federal and state governments offer a variety renewable energy programs of incentives to encourage the growth of industry and energy saving Consumer initiatives funded by government and trade, including programs for the reduction of taxes and subsidies.

In recent years, renewable energy has become an important part of the agenda of the United States government. For example, the Federal Energy Policy Act of 2005 (EPACT) established a tax deduction for energy efficient commercial buildings applicable to rating systems and buildings.

More recently, Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 extended tax incentives to be created and modified the EPACT Stabilization Act Emergency Economic 2008.

In 2008, the total consumption of renewable energy in the U.S. billion was 7,315,711 Btu, an increase of 7.5% over the previous year. Hydroelectric power accounted for 33.5 percent of total
consumption renewable energy. And biomass accounted for 53.25 percent. Consumption remains divided by the wind (7%), geothermal (5%), and solar (1.25%).

For EIA, the outlook for the next two decades is that the U.S. continues counting fossil fuels, coal is growing faster than the liquid fuel and natural gas. Modest growth in hydropower and energy Nuclear is expected, as is double the renewable energy nonhydroelectric 2030.

Tax deduction in 2009 or 2010?

I installed a water heater energy efficient in December 2009. But all the payment was made January 2010 (hence the receipt dated 2010). For tax deduction, "I can include this in 2009 or 2010 tax return?

2010 - date of payment and receipt is what the IRS looks.
